Del Toro x Basel
Over thirty local and international artists have laid their mark on Del Toro shoes, for the 2nd annual Art Basel party for the brand. #DTARTBASEL will premiere on Wednesday, December 5th, from 5-11pm at The Wynwood Building at 2750 NW 3rd Ave. Suite 22 Miami, FL 33127. The occasion also marks the grand opening of their first official Del Toro boutique. Artists exhibiting their custom slippers include Hoxxo, Atomik, Sand, Abstrk, and Evoca1.
Miami graffiti legend, Atomik, whose piece is “Untitled,” describes his character as “crying” because “they knocked down the Orange Bowl.” Always looking to bring smiles across Miami, he continues, “He has a chipped tooth from fighting rivals in Little Havana. His halo signifies that the Orange Bowl is an angel looking over the Marlins Ball Park.”
LA based artist, Sand, whose shoe is entitled “I Get So Lonely,” explains, “the girl represents what I felt as I painted this slipper. My cartoons are entering a stage of evolution and self growth. Being alone is being able to finally be in touch with oneself.”
Abstrk, whose piece is entitled, “Feed Me,” likes that he can wear an edgy yet sophisticated shoe, sporting a look toned down with a bit of panache. He explains that Del Toro is “like my style and off the wall,” and that the shoe he’s created for the Art Basel show is stylistically similar to his murals. He notes that “the artists selected, especially a lot of the Miami artists, go well with the line. The wild textures and wild colors on the shoes complement the diversity in the walls and artists in Miami.”
Matthew Chevallard, Creative Director of Del Toro, is looking forward to the event and launch of the boutique. “I always appreciate the various aesthetics each artist brings to our classic silhouettes and I am thrilled to showcase this installation at our new location. Wynwood is filled by amazing art from talented local artists and I am happy to be a part of the Wynwood community.”
To celebrate the opening of the boutique, music will be provided by Beats, hors d’oeuvres by Eating House, and Complimentary Champagne and Vodka + Perrier cocktails sponsored by Perrier and Southern Wine and Spirits of South Florida. RSVP at email@example.com.
