MVM Miami is a design-driven women’s boutique that is based in Miami’s burgeoning new retail corridor of Wynwood. Melissa Mosheim, owner of MVM Miami made her dreams a reality by opening a boutique that had been her long term goal! Melissa’s been in the fashion industry since she was 15 years old, she managed a variety of boutiques and felt she needed to bring a different type of store to Miami. She feels a lot of the stores in this city have all the same product, and when she would visit NYC and LA she fell in love with how they had a different sort of concept; they were edgier, they had a variety of price points, and different types of clothing that would target a broader range of customer. That’s exactly what she dreamed of, and exactly what she created! The majority of the lines in MVM Miami come from NY and LA and they carry local designers as well, such as RK New York, Dafne Jewelry, Caster Collection, and Peixoto.
Aside from the great apparel, the décor inside MVM Miami has a beautiful touch! At the very beginning when the boutique was an empty space, Melissa stood with her architect staring at the empty walls, trying to figure out which direction to take the style of the store. They were going back and forth and began brainstorming ideas. She always gravitated how she fell in love with New York’s Soho, and how all the stores were very industrial! So she knew she definitely wanted industrial, but didn’t want to make it too masculine. So they were able to accent the furniture with girly antique chairs, and touches to give it the right industrial look that she had envisioned. They then needed ideas for the clothing racks, and decided to head to her fathers warehouse, where her family owns a scrap metal company. The architect found some solid brass 400 pound pieces lying around in the warehouse and said “Were making racks out of those!” She laughed and thought it was a silly idea! But the project began and as challenging as it was, it turned out to be fun, creative, and gave the store a warm hidden touch of her father. And may i add, it looks amazing!
Why Wynwood? “I have always been drawn to the area, I go out in Wynwood, I eat in Wynwood, and I just love the area! Majority of the places I worked for were in South Beach, clothing wise, and boutique shopping I feel it’s over saturated, everything is turning this way. A lot of my customers are over the whole South Beach scene, and I think everyone wants something a little more fresh. I also love the community feel, everyone is so nice out here and everyone knows whats going on. I feel everyone in the area is on the same boat, we’re all entrepreneurs and trying to do something different, and its just so wonderful to have that vibe in the community.”
MVM Miami offers something special and convenient, they offer personal shopping. It’s actually huge at MVM Miami. Being in the industry for so long Melissa developed a big cliental base where she will ask them what they need and will pick out what she knows will be appropriate for the shopper, and she will drop off whatever they want and pick up whatever they don’t want. So you don’t even have to come in the store.
As for events, there will be a different designer trunk show every art walk. Also, some great Art Basel events are stirring up! There will be three events for Art Basel so far. The opening day of Art Basel (Thursday) Lauren Moshi LA Base designer and artist, will be having a trunk show. She will be selling her art work, and showcasing her brand. It’s really amazing stuff, very funky, and very LA! It’s going to be a pretty big party, it will be catered, and of course champagne!
Friday, of Art Basel they will be having another LA designer, a brand called Haber. Haber is a very small collection and will only be showcasing 10 pieces. Very high end and very exclusive. Haber caters to celebrities as well.
Saturday, will be Lacy Ryan.
