This Week at O-Cinema!

Sun, Jan 26th @ 12pm

Let’s get 2014 off to the right start with some delicious vegan goodness courtesy of our great friends at Love & A Vegetable.  While we welcome the touring program of Sundance Shorts, an eclectic mix of the festivals award winning short-form films , we’ll be feasting on a truly scrumptious and healthy brunch of locally sourced ingredients.

Smoked Veggie Quiche

Vegan Quiche is one of our favorite brunch-time items, and for this recipe we’re smoking some yummy local veggies, creating a luscious creaminess with garbanzo bean flour, and pouring it atop of some delicious flaky vegan pie dough.

 Mushroom Potato Hash

We love a good hash – crispy and crunchy, packed full of flavor – and to achieve this we’re mixing a blend of mushrooms with crispy small diced golden potatoes and topping it off with herbs picked fresh that morning from the Earth N’ Us Farm.

 Grilled Pineapple and Bread Salad

Zak the Baker has the best bread in Miami, and he just happens to be our neighbor at the Earth N’ Us Farm. We’re taking chunks of his delicious bread, mixing it with savory and sweet grilled pineapple and some farm-fresh herbs to create a flavorful and creative new salad.

Baby Greens, Sprouts, & Papaya Salad

Papayas are in season almost year-round in Miami, and now they’re in their peak season. Our salad is a melange of these delicious local fruits, crisp organic salad greens, and our house sprouts- full of life and energy to make this salad come to life!

Lemon Poppy Muffins To round off this beautiful brunch, we’re baking up some sweet and tart muffins to complement the rich and full flavors of the other delectable items. These little guys are sure to put a smile on your face : )

Snack: Buttered Rosemary Popcorn
We love serving popped corn and trying new and different spice combinations. For this snack we’re dipping our kernels in a warm golden bath of melted vegan butter and fresh pungent rosemary to create an aromatic popcorn to snack on during this collection of short films.

A series of brutal murders puts the lives of three men on a collision course: The father of the latest victim now out for revenge, a vigilante police detective operating outside the boundaries of law, and the main suspect in the killings – a religious studies teacher arrested and released due to a police blunder.

A young girl goes missing in the woods. She’s soon found, dead and decapitated, the latest victim in a string of terrible child murders.  A disgruntled vigilante cop named Miki is absolutely certain that he knows who is responsible, and that person is Dror, a timid and socially awkward schoolteacher. The cop pays off a pair of thugs to savagely beat the teacher in the hopes of getting a confession out of him, but that plan backfires spectacularly when a viral video of the ultimate example of decidedly un-civic police brutality tears across Israel, costing Miki his job. Now, all bets are off.

Sundance Shorts!

A roller coaster mix of drama and comedy, theSundance Film Festival Short Films program is a 93-minute collection of eight short films from the 2013 edition of the Festival.

Vibrant storytelling highlights the group, including fiction, documentary and animation, with five award-winners. With no rules, the short film serves as a proving ground for young filmmakers to make their mark and for established filmmakers to take risks in story and style.
